“Sigizia” by Simone Pellegrini is a large-scale mixed-media work that reads like a ritual map or a mythological field guide. Created in 2007, this 130 x 245 cm composition is rendered in earthy tones and organic textures, featuring abstract plant forms, falling human figures, and swirling flocks of black birds that seem to occupy both sky and mind.

Pellegrini’s signature technique is unmistakable. Using handmade paper stained with pigment and oil, he works in layered stages that result in a richly tactile surface. The imagery feels ancient, like a recovered fragment from an unknown civilisation. Symbols appear repeatedly, such as roots, flames, and embryonic forms, suggesting cycles of birth, transformation, and descent.

At the centre, branching tree-like forms connect above and below. They evoke systems of knowledge or origin. To the right, a vertical chain of nude figures descends through the space. Their gestures are ambiguous, somewhere between surrender and release. Winged beings and obscure anatomical shapes float throughout the scene, blurring the line between human, nature, and dream.
